Screening
We specialize in the Screening of EEE components for critical industries such as aerospace, defense, and industrial electronics. This essential service ensures that component batches meet the highest quality standards before integration into critical systems.
What is EEE component screening?
Screening is a process involving tests, inspections, or a combination of both, applied to 100% of the components in a batch. The primary goal is to identify and remove defective items or those prone to early failures, thereby enhancing the overall reliability of the batch.
Through stress testing, defective components are identified and removed (infant mortality), enabling the rest of the batch to reach the constant failure rate phase, also known as the operational lifetime phase.
It’s important to note that screening does not increase the inherent reliability of the components but eliminates those exhibiting weaknesses or defects.
Standards and guidelines
The required screening level for an EEE component batch is defined by industry standards and specifications such as:
- ECSS-Q-ST-60C
- ECSS-Q-ST-60-13C (for commercial EEE components)
- Project-specific requirements
Guidance on what to do and how to perform tests is provided in key documents, including:
- Generic specifications
- MIL-STD test methods
- NASA EEE-INST-002
- NASA PEM-INST-001
European and international space programs typically conduct screening in accordance with ESCC and MIL specifications.
